Claims of a PS5 remake for RPG classic The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion simply won't go away, as another rumour adds to the speculation of an April 2025 announcement and release all at once in the form of a shadow drop.

Discussing on his daily gaming news podcast, Giant Bomb member Jeff Grubb (via VGC) added to the speculation that the game could be coming "at any moment this month" and would "shadow drop pretty soon". A term coined over recent years, a shadow drop is when a game is announced and released all at once, meaning the RPG remake would launch on PS5 the same day it's revealed.

There have been so many rumours of an Oblivion remake these past few weeks that we are now at a point where some are already being debunked, as less reliable leakers suggested it would release last week.

That obviously did not happen, but as old media trailers are removed from the original's Steam listing — a process that has happened right before other remake announcements in the past — it certainly seems like something is right around the corner.

More than just a graphical overhaul, previous reports have pointed towards the Oblivion remake enhancing gameplay systems like sneaking, blocking, and archery. Oblivion was the precursor to the series' biggest success to date, Skyrim. However, Oblivion was still just as revolutionary at the time, launching first on Xbox 360 before coming to PS3 a year later.

Will you play this long-speculated remake of Oblivion if it turns out to be the real deal? Let us know in the comments below.
