We're going to be very happy when the supposed Oblivion remake is finally announced. Not because it's actually real, but because we won't have to cover these increasingly tedious rumors.

The latest 'insider' information to do the rounds originates on social media (of course). A user by the name of Detective Seeds — who, to be fair, seems to have a reasonable track record when it comes to Xbox-related stuff — has made headlines with his claim that the Oblivion remake is releasing this week.

Yep, you read that right, although Detective Seeds does cover his arse a bit by adding that his source is unsure if it's happening this week or next week. Take that as you will.

Now while that may seem like an utterly mental statement to throw out there — not to mention a great way to nuke your credibility if it turns out to be inaccurate — we need to remember that previous rumors have said that an April launch is likely. And there is the big Nintendo Switch 2 Direct happening tomorrow at the time of writing. Hmmm.

And no, this isn't some April Fools' shenanigan, the post is from the 30th March, but it's only just starting to gain some real traction.

The thing is, though, we're still yet to see anything of this project. There have been no behind-the-scenes leaks beyond somewhat vague job listings; all we've had to go on are these relatively recent (and seemingly credible) rumors.

Just to refresh your memory on what we know, this remake is apparently a full, ground-up recreation of Bethesda's 2006 open world RPG, using Unreal Engine 5. Based on those aforementioned job listings, it's been developed by Virtuos — a globe-spanning development company that's also behind Metal Gear Solid Delta.

Fortunately, we'll know whether this new rumor is the real deal in the very near future. Until then, keep on dreaming in the comments section below.
