Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut is currently only announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, but it sounds like it’ll be a timed exclusive judging by language used by the Mario maker.

In a press release, the organisation said the prequel will be coming “first” to the new console, which is usually the language used when a title is timed to a specific platform.

And that’s good news, because it’s been confirmed the port will include 26 minutes of additional cutscenes long-time fans of the franchise will want to see.

Yakuza obviously has a long-established history on PlayStation, with Sony even stepping in to localise Yakuza 5 and help resurrect the series’ western fortunes.

Producer Makoto Suzuki told Famitsu magazine that the new content will centre on long-time protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and his complicated relationship with Akira Nishikiyama. There’ll also be scenes involving Daisaku Kuze and Goro Majima. All of this content was cut from the original campaign.

The re-release will also include a multiplayer mode named Red Light Raid, which will feature 60 playable characters from franchise history. While it’s built with online play in mind, you’ll also be able to enjoy it solo if you choose.

It’ll be interesting to see how SEGA handles this when it brings it to other platforms. Will the new content be available as an update for the existing version of Yakuza 0 which launched almost a decade ago on the PS4, or will the game get a new PS5 port with all of the additional content bundled in?
