Xenoblade 3 Name Delocalization Patch (Work in Progress)
DisclaimerIf you don't intend to use this patch and only want to comment for trolling purposes, don't bother. The world doesn't need any more clowns. You're not special.
While this isn't a full retranslation like my Xenoblade 2 project, it focuses on preserving the authentic Japanese elements that were compromised during localization.
Core Philosophy
The fundamental goal of this patch is authenticity to the original Japanese version without compromising cultural elements for the sake of "Western accessibility." This isn't about making the game more "digestible" for the average player - the official localization already serves that purpose. Instead, this patch aims to preserve the original intent of character naming and terminology that was significantly altered in the Western release.Current Progress
So far, I have completed (including DLCs):- All character names restored to their original Japanese versions (both main characters and NPCs) - over 100 character names in total
Planned Restorations
The following elements are planned for future updates:- All proper names (places, organizations, etc.)
- Attack names for all characters (restoring their original meanings and references)
- Key lore terminology that was altered in localization
- Eventually, some crucial dialogues that significantly impact character portrayal or story understanding
Installation
Install it as any other mod.Tested with newest game version with all DLCs installed.
Community Input Requested
I'm seeking input from players familiar with both the Japanese and Western versions of Xenoblade 3 (I played it right after its release and I don't remember many minor things now). If you've noticed specific names, terms, or dialogue that you believe would be good to restore to their original form and might have been overlooked, please share them. Your insights will help ensure this project is as comprehensive as possible. This is a rolling release project - rather than waiting for "completion," new versions will be released periodically as progress is made. Your feedback on bugs, overlooked details, and suggestions will drive continuous improvement.
I'll post name list and how they were changed later. Now I'm going to bed.
Oh, and btw, thanks again to roccodev, for both - bdat packer/unpacker and mod that allow to load external files as normal mod regardless of the game version.
