SEGA's official Sonic portal website, Sonic Channel, is celebrating its 20th anniversary on March 20th, 2025, and to celebrate the occasion, the website has added brand new content related to everything Sonic The Hedgehog.

The new content adds a Sonic Channel Fan Card; where users can create their own card with a custom made avatar (similar to Sonic Forces), a new Character Introduction section; which goes into a brief explanation and details on the characters of the franchise, a History section; which goes by the games by release date, and the most interesting addition out of this is an official timeline for the Sonic games, called "Sonic World Story".

"Sonic World Story" gives a comprehensive glance at the series story, and each one of the games from the franchise, as well as the unfolding events within them and the history behind them, have been placed in proper timeline.

The official timeline takes events from games like "Sonic Unleashed" and the Dark Gaia incident, and places them properly in an overall timeline, for example, placing the Light and Dark Gaia events as the very first in the timeline, followed by the tribe known as The Ancients and how they took shelter in the Mystic Ruins alongside the Chaos Emeralds, as detailed in "Sonic Frontiers", and so on, covering the vast majority of the main Sonic games.

All the events from the main games are accounted for and placed accordingly, even those with time travel like Sonic 06, but one thing in particular that stood out from the list, is that SEGA doesn't consider the start of the Modern Era of Sonic (from a timeline perspective) with "Sonic Adventure", as many believed, but rather they consider Sonic 4 to be the start of the Modern Era of Sonic.

Those interested can visit the official Sonic Channel website and check out the Sonic World Story for the full breakdown of the official Sonic timeline.
