So, to buy a digital version of Mario Kart World on the Switch 2, you're looking at paying £74.99 / $79.99. That is a massive cost that surpasses what we typically see from AAA titles - but perhaps will set a precedent for the future.
You could look at this from two different angles. The first is that it makes Xbox Game Pass look like the best value ever, with so many first-party games being added to the service at no extra charge. The other is that it's potentially terrible news for Xbox fans, because Game Pass and game prices in general will probably rise as a result.
Would you blame Microsoft for increasing the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate when Nintendo's out here charging up to $80 for a first-party game? I know I wouldn't... but at the same time, that's obviously not what I'm hoping to see!
Who knows how this'll play out - but ultimately, $80 for a Mario Kart title seems pretty crazy at first glance.
