We are, of course, talking about the rise of cheaters. As part of Title Update 1, Capcom has added special challenge quests that are only available for a limited time. The first of these new quests tasks players with defeating a Doshaguma — the hulking dog-bear-like creature — with predetermined equipment.
If you can slay the Doshaguma within a specific amount of time, you'll be rewarded with a unique pendant cosmetic — a symbol of your prowess. There are different pendants for simply completing the quest, or beating the beast in under five minutes (which is tricky in itself).
The problem, though, is that there's also a special reward for players who make the top 10,000 places on the global leaderboard. That sounds fun on paper, but in practice, the leaderboard is dominated by cheaters, who have all posted times of mere seconds.
Right now, at the time of writing this article, it's impossible to actually make the top 10,000 without cheating — which obviously renders the unique pendant reward both unattainable and utterly pointless.
At this point, it's worth noting that Monster Hunter World ran into a similar issue, with cheaters ruining its leaderboards — and this was, disappointingly, a problem that never actually got fixed. Again, all eyes are on Capcom.
