Hand-drawn platformer Ruffy and the Riverside will be released this June

Ruffy and the Riverside is a platformer first, but its cut-and-paste puzzle gameplay separates it from other games in the same genre. The hand-drawn open-world game has players cutting and pasting textures to continue progressing through the platforming world. Originally set to be released in Q1 2025, Ruffy and the Riverside was delayed to allow time to polish it and simultaneous release on all platforms. Today, it was announced that the game would be launching for PC and consoles in late June.

The cut-and-paste mechanic is a magical power called SWAP. You can turn ice into lava and, as seen in the trailer below, waterfalls into vines. You literally hold the power to change this world in the palm of your hands! At the end of the 3D world, Ruffy leaps into 2D levels to collect treasures, but it will require lots of swapping to safely pass.

In Ruffy and the Riverside, Ruffy meets the mysterious Etoi and helps the eccentric characters throughout the land. He rides hay bales, performs tricks on secret rails, and discovers unknown areas while also completing side quests, mastering challenges, and collecting magic treasure from across the seven regions.

According to the latest press release, the key features of Ruffy and the Riverside are:

• Use dreamstones to create & apply custom textures to elements like stone, waterfalls and more…
• Enjoy a magical atmosphere with a focus on exploration & discovery.
• Gather various collectables, such as coins, butterflies, dreamstones and cute Etoi creatures!

Developed by Zockrates Laboratories and published by Phiphen Games, Ruffy and the Riverside will be released for PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch(es), Xbox Series, and Xbox One on June 26.
