During an interview with Bloomberg, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the release schedule of GTA VI, and why its a very carefully held secret. In response, he admitted that the anticipation for the sixth mainline entry in the Grand Theft Auto series may be the greatest he’s ever seen for an entertainment property.
With the aforementioned approach to marketing, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games aim to create excitement on the one hand and balance said excitement with unmet anticipation. Zelnick said that he doesn’t always get it exactly right, but that’s what the company is trying to do with the launch of GTA VI.
Recently, Rockstar Games insider Tez2 took to GTAForums to share that GTA VI will be split into two editions, where one edition will only feature a standalone online mode while the other will offer the complete package, including both the online multiplayer mode and single-player story mode. Rockstar Games and Take-Two already sell GTA Online and Red Dead Online as standalone titles. However, GTA VI will allegedly be the first entry where the online component will be offered as a standalone release from day one, while the story mode will remain part of a complete package that includes both.
