Unsurprisingly it’s a fairly dainty affair, coming in at just 375MB on PlayStation 5 and 334MB on PlayStation 4, as it is a singularly focused update that brings no new content and doesn’t bring any other changes. Or at least not officially anyway.
In a nutshell, the issue saw force feedback on Logitech and Thrustmaster steering wheel controllers — seemingly all models — disappear in some very specific circumstances. If you play mainly or exclusively single-player races, you won’t have been affected.
However in Sport Mode and Lobby events — determined, by GTPlanet members, to occur when three or more players were present — force feedback would drop out entirely, leaving all steering wheel devices from the two brands rather numb. Players with Fanatec wheels, such as the official GT DD Pro and Extreme, were seemingly unaffected.
The wheels were still functional as controller devices but delivered no feedback effects, making it difficult to know when the car was becoming unsettled over curbs or beginning to slide.
It was pretty unfortunate timing for such an issue to manifest too, as this Wednesday saw the first round of the Gran Turismo World Series 2025 Online Qualifiers in the Manufacturers Cup take place. Not only that, the race itself took place at the Nurburgring Endurance circuit, with potential inclement weather — a combination where keeping on top of your car’s responses is a non-stop challenge.
With five of six rounds this season counting towards final scores and potential qualification for the live finals this year, it was a round few could afford to miss, torpid controller or not. However, participation for the round looks to be relatively low, with just over 1,350 players in the top GT1 League in the EMEA region taking part — only 1,186 of whom recorded points finishes. Some on our forums resorted to picking up their PlayStation controllers just to register a score for the round.
Now that the update has addressed the issue, the remaining rounds should be unaffected but will likely see a scramble for points as the Nurburgring round is probably going to be the dropped score for a lot of the playerbase.
