Blue Prince Debuts To Unbelievable Reviews Ahead Of Xbox Game Pass Launch

We highlighted back in February how a former PlayStation boss had called Blue Prince a Game of the Year contender, and at the time there was a lot of surprise that some random indie game was being praised so heavily.

Well... it's definitely a game of the year contender. The reviews have dropped for Blue Prince today, and at the time of writing it's got a 92 average on Metacritic (for PC), For reference, Split Fiction has 93 as the #1 Xbox game of 2025.

We're going to throw some of those reviews down below for you to take a look at, and you can watch the trailer up above. Blue Prince releases on Xbox Game Pass this Thursday, April 10th.

Blue Prince is a special game full of mysteries, secrets and mind-blowing moments with an addictive gameplay loop. It's so good that labelling this as one of the best puzzle games of all time feels like a disservice. Instead, it's possibly the most memorable experience I've ever had playing a game and I can't stop thinking about it.

Last week, after playing a massive Blue Prince session in which I got no closer to Room 46, I started to think about the school I went to back in the day. The school had 26 classrooms, and I know this - and can still remember it - because new kids were forever being sent to pick something up from Room 27. I fell for this more than once. We all did, but I think I was particularly susceptible to it. Partly, granted, because I never really listened or paid attention, but partly because I wanted there to be a Room 27. I wanted more strange possibilities from the spaces I lived around. With Blue Prince I get that. What an extraordinary game this is.

Blue Prince is one of the most memorable video game experiences I have ever had. It is at once accessible and impenetrable, frustrating and euphoric. Like each of my dozens of permutations of the Mount Holly manor house itself, it is truly one of a kind.

Blue Prince feels truly unique in how it takes a simple premise and fills it with multiple threads of mystery to pull at. This exploration roguelike is like nothing else I've played, and became a puzzle obsession I just couldn't shake across multiple runs where I always felt like I was discovering something new. Even after credits, the mysteries of Mt. Holly continue to surprise me.

Blue Prince isn't for everyone. While most of the puzzles can be solved with whatever's in the room, there are some intricate solutions afoot that could elude casual players. The mansion's shifting layout and unpredictable room choices can make progress uneven — or even bring it to a halt if luck isn't on your side. But it's by far one of the most unique games I've played in years, and a true treat for puzzle fiends and mystery fans.
