Late last year, a patent emerged that suggested Samsung was looking to create its own foldable handheld console. Now, the company has showcased what such a device might actually look like at MWC25 in Barcelona. With the Nintendo Switch 2 launching later this year, you might be wondering if the console is set to receive some stiff competition from this new Samsung device. Worry not though; according to T3, this is merely a concept that Samsung hopes will entice other manufacturers into utilising its foldable screen technology in similar ways. Still, it’s an intriguing handheld, even if it is a bit ugly. For…
Over the years, Nintendo has put out some truly weird adverts for its consoles and games, including the wonderful SNES collaboration with the late, great Rik Mayall, and the bizarre sing-a-long commercial used for Super Mario Sunshine. Many of them pale in comparison to the NES Legend of Zelda advert starring comedian and prominent voice actor John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt, Bayonetta), which takes place within a padded prison cell in which Kassir randomly shouts out the name “Zelda” along with multiple enemy names. Now, in a recent Video Game History Hour podcast (via Time Extension), ex-Nintendo of America employee and “marketing mastermind” Gail Tilden shares details that shed…
Nintendo Shares Another Banger From The Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Soundtrack
We thought that last week’s reveal of the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition ‘Don’t Worry’ remix might be the only peek we’d get at the upcoming remaster’s soundtrack, but we were wrong! Nintendo UK is back with another track, and it’s another banger. This time, it’s the battle theme ‘Black Tar’ that gets an upload of its own. Unlike ‘Don’t Worry’, this one appears to have been left relatively untouched for the Definitive Edition, but that doesn’t make it any less of a soul-stirring tuuuune. It’s true, the Nintendo UK upload cuts things off a little abruptly (we don’t even get to hear the line…
The SNK run ‘n gunner Metal Slug 3 is already a pretty ridiculous game, featuring zombies, aliens, and submachine gun-wielding orangutans. But it turns out, the game could have perhaps been even more bonkers, with the former SNK and Nazca Corporation developer Akio recently taking to social media to share details of some of the other “nonsensical” ideas that never made it into the game. Akio posted the insights into the game’s development earlier today on Twitter/X, publishing a video of some rough sketches of the design ideas, alongside a long statement in Japanese providing some more context about what he had planned.…
The recently-released XenonRecomp tool has already given us a PC port of Sonic Unleashed, but it could be put to (arguably much better) use by reviving many delisted Xbox 360 titles. XenonRecomp converts Xbox 360 executables into C++ code, which can then be recompiled for any platform. “Currently, it only supports x86 platforms due to the use of x86 intrinsic,” says the developer. There are over 500 delisted Xbox 360 games, and this tool will give them the chance to live on as PC ports. Notable examples include After Burner Climax, Daytona USA, Jet Set Radio, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Guardian Heroes, OutRun Online,…
Square Enix Staff Discover Cache Of Pristine Retro Games, Some Of Which Date Back 30 Years
Members of Square Enix recently made a remarkable discovery upon opening an old storage container at work that had been shut for close to 20 years: a cache of pristine, retro games that includes titles released for the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, DOS computers, N-Gage, Nintendo Wii, and Amstrad CPC, among other platforms. Lee Singleton, the head of studio at Square Enix External Studios revealed the discovery on LinkedIn, sharing a quick 30-second clip of the remarkable stash that had been uncovered from an off-site storage facility from “days of old”. Looking at this video, it seems that the…
Emulating systems like the Game Boy Advance, SNES and Mega Drive / Genesis is pretty straightforward these days, but the Nintendo DS is a slightly trickier proposition, thanks to its dual display format and touchscreen capabilities. We have the AYANEO Flip DS, but that powerful handheld PC is so expensive that most people won’t be willing to fork out the cash just to play DS titles. Thankfully, a more wallet-friendly alternative is on the horizon via MagicX and its Zero 40 handheld (thanks, Retro Handhelds). Boasting a 4.5-inch portrait-style 480 x 800 IPS screen, the Zero 40 allows the DS’ two screens to be stacked on…
Update [Thu 6th Mar, 2025 10:00 GMT]: Shortly after announcing the Retroid Pocket Classic yesterday, GoRetroid released another video about the device across social media and YouTube. This new video, for the most part, simply went over the little information that we already know about the upcoming handheld, including its core design and the different colours that are being offered. However, as spotted by the publication Retro Handhelds, it also holds one new reveal that wasn’t present in the original announcement, with the video also teasing an additional six-button variant of the device at roughly 13 seconds in. The original Retroid Pocket…
No matter how much you think you know about video games, there’s always information out there you’re not aware of—and today is one of those days for us here at Time Extension. Thanks to a social media post by iFixRetro, we’re now aware of one of Metal Gear Solid’s coolest Easter eggs. If you play the game in a mono sound mode (which is configured via the settings), the game will actually poke fun at the fact that you’re not using a stereo television set. The sequence occurs when you fight against the Hind helicopter, with the Colonel pointing out that you can tell…
Epic Games’ war on cheaters rages on, and it seems Fortnite’s developer/publisher is willing to wage it; after naming and shaming one cheater and giving the recovered funds to charity a fortnight ago, Epic has filed a new lawsuit against an apparent serial fraudster, Isaac Strock, who it is suing for allegedly stealing hundreds of accounts and reselling them. Epic linked to the lawsuit in its latest anti-cheat update, which certainly looks quite serious. It accuses Strock of fraud, and the firm is suing for damages (thanks, PC Gamer). Epic apparently caught Strock no fewer than four times attempting to deceive its customer support…
