While Stardew Valley inspired an entire genre unto itself, nothing beats the original. Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone’s farming and life sim has only been getting bigger and better over the years, with tens of thousands of people playing it as I write this sentence. The idyllic loop of tending crops, exploring lands, and wooing villagers is an incredibly popular one, and it just got even better. A dedicated group of modders has added an entirely new village to the game, basically tacking on an entire sequel.
The ‘Sunberry Village’ Stardew Valley mod introduces the titular locale just south of Pelican Town, and it’s brimming with new activities and characters. There are 17 new NPCs, over 80 events, original stories and plotlines, and even seasonal outfits for some characters with more to come to the farming game. If Springfield has its Shelbyville, Pelican Town now has its Sunberry Village.
The new township also has a number of shops for you to venture into. You can buy flower seeds, head into the convenience store, visit the blacksmith and weaponsmith, buy some threads at the clothing store, or even take a trip to the new Stardew Valley cat cafe. These come with extra quests from the special order board, a museum to fill up Animal Crossing style, extra farm space to unlock, and more.
If you prefer fighting in Stardew Valley, though, this mod also has you covered. There are new mines with different biomes to uncover, and plenty of extra monsters lurking around every corner to take on. That’s not all, though, because there’s a slate of new items available alongside Sunberry Village. You can get new drinks and food, fish, crops, weapons, minerals, artifacts, machines, and even artisan goods.
While the Haunted Chocoloatier release date feels eons away, and Stardew Valley 2 is nothing more than a pipe dream, Sunberry Village is here to fill the gap. The mod feels like a sequel in all but name, with so much to do you could easily lose hundreds more hours to it.
