It has been a long time!
It has been several years since I did an IndieDB dev log for End’s Reach.
In 2022 I was approached by Atari to release the game as an exclusive onto the Atari VCS platform. It was a bold decision due to the small install base but in an effort to reduce the scope and craft the game into something more focused. The limited specs of the Atari VCS meant that I had to trim the fat and narrow down the goal of the game.
This was actually great because the game started to form very quickly around hardware limits and I quickly realized what the final game would actually look like. I highly recommend this approach to other developers in similar situations.
That being said, since I was now working with a development kit (still fully independent and un-funded) I decided to keep development mostly under wraps during that time and, even post-release, forgot to come back and continue blogging.
Needless to say, the game came out to moderate success given the tiny install base of the VCS, and it was a fairly well received game.
What’s next?
The game is set to come to Steam at some point in March. I’m still ironing out the exact date with Valve as I want it to be Steamdeck verified on release.
I am targeting all major platforms – Windows, Linux, and Mac.
Since the graphics and textures are all updated and higher res – the Steam version is basically a remaster.
A lot has changed in the world since this project started in 2019 and I’m proud to have been able to complete it and now bring it to a wider audience.
If you’ve been following along with the game’s developer over the years or just want to see what the end of a journey looks like, take a look at the Steam page and drop me whatever support you can.
Thank you IndieDB,
