Mini Market Design is the latest cosy game on our screens. Developed and published by RedDeerGames, the game is now available on the Nintendo store for £8.09. I am a big fan of all things cosy, so I was excited to get my hands on this game.
What will you build?
Are you a big fan of the cosy-type games? If so, let me know of your favourite down below. In the meantime, let’s find out what Mini Market Design is all about!

Gameplay
As expected, Mini Market Design is a creative sandbox game where you can design and decorate your mini markets. You begin by choosing from 8 different unique store layouts. While they are all ‘mini’ in nature, they offer variety in size. It is up to you to decide if you stay with the ultimate mini market, or do you test the limits of what is mini. Once you have decided on your store layout, your next decision will be to decide what your market will be. There are endless possibilities to decide from.
It doesn’t matter what market you decide to build from the ground up. You just need to make sure it is designed as a welcoming space for your customers. This is done by using your creative freedom. By using your artistic skills, no mini market will be the same. To aid you in design, the game boosts plenty of different furniture and decor items. 510 to be exact!

As it can be seen in the above image, furniture and decor is split into different categories. This makes it easy to find specific items to fit specific designs. The use of items is limitless – helping you to build your dream mini market.
My very own gym!
For my first design, I focused on making a gym. I am not going to sit here and pretend it is amazing by any stretch. However, I don’t think the customers can complain that there isn’t enough workout equipment. I just need to work on my design skills. Another addition that helps is flooring and wallpaper. Beginning the game, you will start with 9 flooring and 18 wallpaper pattern options. This can be bolstered by buying DLC packs for approximately £0.89 each. These DLC packs offer more flooring and wallpaper options.
Unfortunately, in terms of floor and wallpaper options, they quickly become tiresome. Some are quite similar, and there does not seem to be that same variety. Especially when the game is offering over 500 different types of furniture. It would be nice to see a bit more variety when it comes to swatches, as well as flooring and wallpaper.

Graphics and Audio
Graphically, Mini Market Design fits into the aesthetic of being a cute and cosy game. It’s the cutesy cartoon art style that you would come to expect to see with cosy games. Thankfully, I did not run into any issues. Loading into the game is seamless, and having created a couple of different stores, I didn’t run into any bugs.
Regarding the audio, it is not a deal breaker when it comes to games such as this. It is not something that the game relies on. However, it is nice when the audio helps to build into the atmosphere. The type of music in the Mini Market Design reminded me of elevator music. Something you bob your head along to. In this case, this fits into the atmosphere well, as you try not to lose yourself in the world of interior design.

Longevity
In all honesty, longevity is where I see this game being at fault. Although there is a vast amount of furniture to play with, and not all mini markets will be the same. I can imagine that making similar markets will soon become unoriginal. What would’ve been great to see would be the merge of Mini Market Design with their other instalment, My Cosy Room.
Logically it feels like it makes sense to combine the two and offer a fuller experience. Both games work on the same principle, and it would offer more variety in one game, rather than splitting it into two.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I would’ve liked a bit more with Mini Market Design. I enjoy the core of the game, but like I have said previously, if they were to merge with their other instalment, I think this would take the game to the next level. However, it is not a very expensive game, with its price point being £8.09. I think for that price, you can’t be too annoyed with what’s on offer.
If you are into “cosy” games, then this is definitely one to check out and have a feel of the game for yourself.
I will be awarding Mini Market Design the Thumb Culture Silver Award.
