Chrono Trigger turns 30 this year, and Square Enix plans to celebrate the famed RPG with several “projects.”

While no details were provided, Square Enix took to Twitter to announce that it was working on several projects to coincide with the anniversary.
“Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of “Chrono Trigger” in 1995. This timeless masterpiece that transcends generations and is still talked about today was born from a dream project by Yuji Horii of “Dragon Quest,” Akira Toriyama of “Dragon Ball,” and Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of “Final Fantasy.” As we mark the 30th anniversary, we will be launching various projects that go beyond the world of the game over the next year to express our gratitude to everyone who has played Chrono Trigger so far. The latest information will be posted on Square Enix Official X and @ChronoTriggerPR, so please look forward to it,” reveals the post.
The game launched on March 11, 1995, and I remember how many ads I would discover in gaming mags then. It caught my eye, and I remember my parents buying me a copy while we were on vacation. Thirty years later, Chrono Trigger remains one of my favourite games.
The game follows Crono, a young swordsman who gets caught in an adventure through time after his friend Lucca’s teleportation experiment goes wrong, sending a girl named Marle into the past. In their attempt to rescue her, they uncover a greater crisis—an apocalyptic future caused by Lavos, a monstrous entity that emerged in 1999 to destroy the world.
The sequel, Chrono Cross, was released in 1999 and was remastered in 2022.
