The Sims 4 is a life simulator in which players can create unique Sims, build homes and venues, and tell stories. Death is a part of Sims’ lives, and whether it happens by accident or if they reach the end of their lifespans, Sims will eventually pass on to the other side.
If Sims die indoors in The Sims 4, their bodies will turn into an urn. If players want to build a cemetery or don’t want to have to keep their Sim’s remains inside their home, they can turn their urns into gravestones. Here’s a complete guide on how to turn urns into gravestones in The Sims 4.

How to Turn Urns into Gravestones in The Sims 4
Whenever a Sim dies, the Grim Reaper will pay the household a visit. If other Sims are around, they can ask Grim to spare them or let him take them. Once Grim has done his job, the Sim’s body disappears, and an urn or a gravestone takes its place.
Sims who die indoors will get an urn, while those who die outdoors will get gravestones. You should pick up their remains if a Sim dies in a public place because they won’t be automatically added to a Sim’s inventory. If a player loses a Sim’s urn or gravestone or a Sim from a different lot dies, they must search for it.
If players want to turn an urn into a gravestone in The Sims 4, they must make use of the following steps:
- Click and hold the urn.
- Drag it and drop it outside.
- Once outside, the urn will become a gravestone.
The steps to turn a gravestone into an urn are the same, but vice versa. Drag the gravestone indoors to turn it into an urn.
How to Customize Urns or Gravestones in The Sims 4
While players can enjoy the free base game, they can add more experiences to their Sims’ lives through DLC packs. The Life and Death Expansion pack adds more gameplay, specifically some elements surrounding death. Players who have purchased this expansion pack can host funerals or choose a custom gravestone for their Sims’ remains.
Players can change a Sim’s gravestone or urn by clicking on it and selecting “Display as…” This pulls up a menu that shows different gravestone and urn styles that Sims can have. If players have other DLC installed, they will get even more options.
In the Life and Death DLC, Sims can place friends’ and families’ headstones at new cemetery lots or take them home. If players decide to have a funeral for their Sims, they will get more funeral activities if they bring the urn or gravestone with them. Sims can also mourn at a gravestone to help them grieve faster.
