Developer Dark Machine Games and publisher DreadXP have announced their new upcoming horror roguelite White Knuckle will launch later this year as an Early Access title via Steam.
The game allows players to explore SUB-STRUCTURE 17 as they attempt to climb as high as possible. As a roguelite, the higher players climb, the more challenges they will have to to overcome, and falling will require a restart from the beginning. New tools and bonuses will be provided after each run to make navigating easier, with the ultimate goal of reaching the top. But players should stay alert, as they are not the only ones down there.
For more about the game, here’s the overview and trailer as provided to us by the developers. You can also head on over to the Steam Page to wishlist the game today, or try out the demo.
About:
As a lone climber trapped in a decaying megacomplex deep underground, you must ascend SUB-STRUCTURE 17 using precision movement, sharp reflexes, and resource management. Scale crumbling walls, vault over treacherous gaps, avoid deadly traps, and evade the compound’s malevolent denizens as an encroaching and increasingly angry ooze rises below you, spurring you to climb swiftly or face your doom. Employ a variety of tools to aid your ascent, but be mindful not to overfill your inventory, as the heavier you get, the harder it is to climb. You’ll need a hand to retrieve tools from your bag, but you also need them to hold on, so you’ll need to think quickly or you’re likely to slip… and it’s a long way down.
The higher you climb, the more dangerous your surroundings become, with each new area introducing unique trials and increasingly hostile enemies, testing your ability to adapt and endure. From the deep dry storage of the Silos to the putrid sewers of the Pipeworks and the haunted piers of Habitation, the changing environment presents new challenges which are sure to increase tension as you try to break free from SUB-STRUCTURE 17.
Should you fall, you’ll be able to augment yourself with different unlockable perks between runs to make future climbs a bit easier. Increase stats like climbing speed, stamina, and jump height to improve your odds of escape.
