Bungie is no stranger to making mistakes with Destiny 2, but this is one of their craziest ones so far.
A new update launched for Destiny 2 today, bringing Heresy Act 2 to players, but what drew most attention was something else entirely: the upcoming Rite of the Nine dungeon event seemingly starting some three weeks before it was supposed to.
The event is slated to begin on April 1, with the launch of Heresy Act 3, but it looks like someone at Bungie made a mistake and launched it today.
Not only that, but players are getting rewards. Unfinished ones, at that.
Bungie has already responded with an X post acknowledging their mistake and stating that players will be unable to use their rewards “until further notice,” most likely around when it was supposed to start.
The Fun Is Over Already
Rite of the Nine is a free event, not requiring any season passes or the expansion, that revamps older dungeons and adds new rewards for completing them.
But, as noticed by Destiny Bulletin on X, Bungie clearly hasn’t finished the rewards yet, and players are receiving incomplete versions of them; according to PC Gamer, when they went in to give it a try, it seemed to work more or less perfectly.
However, as of time of writing, Bungie seems to have already disabled access to Rite of the Nine activities, according to their Bungie Help account on X, so players are unfortunately no longer able to dive into unfinished dungeons for placeholder loot.

Here are the builds that best synergize with the newly released Aspects in Episode Heresy.
Destiny 2 has not had the easiest time in the last few years. Bungie faced mass layoffs last year, despite continuing to hire new employees, faced criticism for the massive 300 GB download size of The Final Shape expansion, and accidentally heavily nerfed drop rates for exotic items, to name a few.
That being said, when the Rite of the Nine event does launch at its intended time, it looks like a good opportunity for new or returning players to stick their toes into it, since the event is completely free.
The Heresy episode started back in February with the launch of Act 1 alongside a Star Wars crossover event.
