Almost a year ago to the day, Ukrainian developer Frogwares announced The Sinking City 2 at an Xbox Partner Preview event – and now the team has unveiled early gameplay and a Kickstarter campaign, which has already smashed its initial goal mere hours since launching.
Of course, you can view the studio’s short gameplay clip up above; showcasing some early examples of combat and exploration from the team’s upcoming title. It looks very The Sinking City, with some extra pizazz and native current-gen goodness – which is certainly not a bad thing given how much we enjoyed the first title.
“Step into the flooded city of Arkham in this Lovecraftian survival horror video game, blending atmospheric exploration, brutal survival, and a deep investigative system in a world filled with cosmic horror and psychological dread.
The Sinking City 2 delivers a dark, oppressive world packed with challenging combat, environmental storytelling and mind-bending discoveries. No hand-holding. No safe spaces. Just you, the unknown, and the horror waiting to be uncovered.”
As for that Kickstarter campaign, well, it arrived alongside this snippet of footage and has already blasted past the team’s initial funding goal. Frogwares was aiming for €100,000 to make the project come to life in 2025 – and The Sinking City 2 has already gathered up more than double that amount in donations so far.
As unveiled during the game’s Xbox Partner Preview reveal last year, the upcoming title has been confirmed for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S consoles, and the last we heard it was aiming to release this year. Here’s hoping that, after an incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign already, we see and hear lots more about The Sinking City 2 in the coming months.
