A bit of additional information about Nintendo Switch 2 has come to light, seemingly confirming that NFC and Wi-Fi 6 will be included.
The Verge spotted new filings with the FCC today. Based on what was published, NFC and Wi-Fi 6 will be included with Nintendo Switch 2. Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) networks are supported with up to 80MHz of bandwidth, compared to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) on the original Nintendo Switch. Note that Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E are not included. Additionally, tests with the FCC were only done for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks instead of the faster / shorter-range 6GHz band.
As for NFC, that points to amiibo support returning for Nintendo Switch 2. The filings indicate that the RFID feature will be located in the right Joy-Con, similar to what we have now.
Also shared is that it’ll be possible to charge the system from either its bottom USB-C port or its new top USB-C port. While we knew that the console has an extra USB-C port, this appears to be the first time we’ve heard about both supporting charging.
We’ll get many more official details about Nintendo Switch 2 in just a few short weeks. A Nintendo Direct presentation will be held on April 2, so expect news then.
