As we near the Xbox Game Pass release of Atomfall, a final batch of previews have landed for the upcoming RPG – so we thought we’d gather some here to give you a flavour of the experience ahead of its Game Pass arrival this month.
These early impressions are pre-release previews based on a short gameplay session, so that’s worth bearing in mind as you get stuck into them here. Rebellion’s upcoming British survival experience heads to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on March 27th – and it’ll also be included with PC Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

“In the 90 minutes we got to play, uncovering new leads to chase was the clear highlight as we found fresh characters to pick the brains of and locations our map was missing. It was a thoroughly enjoyable process, which when drawn out over the course of a full game full of dead ends and story reveals, appears primed to result in one of 2025’s narrative highlights.”

“The lack of direction could certainly be offputting, but Atomfall feels like a game that rewards you the more you indulge in its obfuscated quest design. The blurred lines between the side and main objectives add a real peril to every action, with its malleable plot design encouraging each player to tell their own tale and find their own ending and explanation for what has happened here in the irradiated English countryside.”
Eurogamer
“I was only in Atomfall’s world for an hour and a half, but I felt like I saw more in those ninety minutes than I would do in many other games. There’s humour, heart and personality by the bucketload, and a fantastically realised world to explore that manages to perfectly capture the peculiarities of intricacies of English village life, seamlessly mixing it with a mysterious sci-fi story that constantly surprises and delights.”

“First of all, it’s very Fallout. That’s far from a bad thing. In fact, I’ve been burned before on games that trade on Fallout’s style and sensibilities and deliver a boring crafting game. This is a proper first-person RPG with dialogue checks, skills, and plenty of BGS-style whackiness. The other element that reminds us of Fallout is just how much we wanted to explore.
We’re looking forward to getting our hands on the full game later this month. Quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a unique landscape to explore. It’s already started to scratch my Fallout itch, even after only an hour.”
Insider Gaming
“I had nothing but a good time with Atomfall. I love the pacing of the game, which is fairly slow but can quickly turn on its head when you get into a fight. It’s designed for the player to prioritise stealth and subterfuge over bold-faced combat, which is a refreshing change from the games I’m used to playing of late.”
DualShockers
“In the end, I walked away from what precious little I got to experience of Atomfall, and I had a feeling that I rarely have come over me. I desperately wanted to play this title again, and the wait has been nothing short of agonizing.
It’s not the new Fallout, it’s not the new Dishonored, and it’s not the new Sniper Elite. Atomfall is an entirely new beast, and one that I cannot wait to immerse myself in fully.”
The Gamer
“What kept me going through my run was the promise of something else waiting for me. If Atomfall can deliver on this promise, then all of these mechanics could come together to create something gritty and beautiful. If not, then it’s a decent, challenging shooter with a gorgeous backdrop. But really, Atomfall feels like it wants to be more than that, and we’ll have to wait and see if it can fulfil its lofty ambitions.”
