Nexon has confirmed its free-to-play shooter The First Descendant will no longer support PS4 and Xbox One, with those last-gen versions to be delisted in June 2025. Not only does this mean the older editions won’t receive any new content, but they’ll become completely unplayable from 19th June 2025. You’ll only find the PS5 version of The First Descendant on the PS Store after then.
As for why the developer is taking such action, it’s said that due to the “scale” of the game increasing with season three, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are now demanding “a lot of effort and difficulty maintaining”. Nexon shall now pull the plug on them entirely and only support PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For anyone still playing the game on PS4 or Xbox One, they will be able to transfer their progress over to current-gen using the cross-save function.
The development team added: “Since season 3 is a ‘mega season’ update for us, we wanted to focus our development team on increasing player satisfaction.”
When the last-gen versions are pulled, it’ll mean The First Descendant spent less than a year available on PS4 and Xbox One. At the time of its PS5 release, we were unimpressed by the experience, awarding it a 3/10.
We concluded: “The First Descendant has the stand-out Colossi battles, but everything leading up to them is so mind-numbingly tedious that they don’t justify the time or monetary investment you’d need to spend to enjoy them. It’s the gaming equivalent of playing with a fidget spinner while on a Discord call — something to keep your hands occupied while you catch up. It’s a game designed to get you to pay to skip it, not play it, so what’s the point of it?”
